JAKARTA, iNews.id – PT MNC Energy Tbk (IATA) continues to be committed to developing its business in the coal trading business. This was conveyed directly by IATA President Director Suryo Eko Hadianto after the 2023 AGMS and EGMS of PT MNC Energy Investments Tbk at iNews Tower, Jakarta, Wednesday (26/6/2024).
According to him, IATA’s coal reserves have lower calories with the officially launched Indonesian Coal Index (ICI) in the range of 4.
“Well this has a low price among the coal in Indonesia, for that with us entering the trading business, the first thing we can do is add value to this low calorie coal by buying coal elsewhere that has a high calorie. So that we can blending, with this blending we can add value, that’s the first thing,” said Suryo.
Second, said Suryo, is IATA strengthening its business in the mining sector. Because, by entering as a trading player, his party will clearly know how the character of the coal business itself, including the projections and market opinions that exist in it.
“(By) we will enter into it, it is very important for the coal industry. So that when we negotiate coal prices, long-term contracts, we are well informed. So that we can have a pretty good bargaining position in the future,” he said.
On this occasion, Suryo also believes that coal reserves will continue to be mined in line with the exploration process that shows new findings. To date, IATA’s coal reserves have reached 386.6 million metric tons from 25 percent of the total mining area of 72,478 hectares.
He said that exploration activities are still being carried out gradually in the remaining 80 percent of the mining area. He also estimated that by the end of the year, IATA’s coal reserves could approach 500 million MT.
“Hopefully some drilling will produce the best numbers for IATA, because we have only drilled 20 percent at the moment. So 386.6 million is only for an area of around 20 percent, of which 80 we will explore and this year we have done exploration, hopefully by the end of the year there will be more,” Suryo said.
Katanya, kegiatan eksplorasi pun masih terus dilakukan secara bertahap pada 80 persen sisa area penambangan. Ia pun memperkirakan sampai akhir tahun, cadangan batubara IATA itu bisa mendekati angka 500 juta MT.
